I must report here that our town is in the process of building a new casino, the first in our States history. I did not vote for the measure to build one. But that said, its going to be a major throroughfare for our civilization here in Northeast Ohio. I previously noted that I have had a gambling disorder and no longer plan to gamble. I have given this more thought. I do indeed wish to see the casino. This took me much tribulation to arrive at as I had been quite opposed to its inception. That said, I do want to see what our culture has to offer. As well. I do not plan to gamble. That is agaisnt Halacha. But I have revisted my own thinking about casino gaming. (I didnt say gambling). I must report that if you go to a casino and view it in your mind as a "giving experience", it is indeed halachaic sound. Perhaps you go and consider that you will be willing to "give" the casino 50 dollars of your own money in a night. You can sit at the tables, socialize and enjoy the casino atmosphere. This is not a sin I say. In fact, if the casino so chooses, they may indeed give to you as well. Does this constitute gambling? I say you need to examine your mind and your heart in your gaming experience. If you stick to the same bet (say 5 dollars a hand at black jack) you are not trying to bilk the system. It becomes just a giving experience. To alter your bets seems irresponsible. Perhaps there might be a study of how to make casino gaming a giving theatre rather than a gambling atmosphere. (though I am sure this is way beyond the conception of most people). That said, I do believe I can indeed go to a casino and if I alter my heard and minds approach, have a good time and indeed find some satisfaction. Will wait and see if this is indeed my approach. I also don't want to come off being the "right wing religious person" who condemns the casino gaming industry. Too many peoples lives are involved and I do not wish to be the person who makes every gambler feel as if they are godless heretics. True gambling is heresy if you consider that you want to do it to win. But if you realize that winning is not the outcome after long term experiences, you must admit that giving is the only way to view gaming these days.
So live long, prosper and roll the dice if you should so choose :)
