I must say I was actually blessed (though I did not know it at the time) to do a month long rotation at the Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami for Anesthesiology. Neat clean efficient place. The operations were interesting, some cancer, some ENT, some podiatry. It was a challenging experience. The attending in charge was an unwedded retired Navy Anesthesiologist who was an inventor of an Anesthesiology delivery product. Sort of prickly. He was not very apt to have big teaching sessions but he was appreciative of the care I delivered in his name. He owned a large boat. Scuba diver too I think. Sorry I never saw it!!!!!
I must say that Dr. Walker was my favorite of the clan in that place. He was an older past retirement age physician who had previously been the cheif of anesthesiolgy at I believe Miami Baptist Medical Center (where I have never been). That said, I will never forget the moment I entered the anesthesiology lounge to find Dr. Walker sitting and finishing some meal of sorts. He had crumbs all over his scrubs top. Another physican came in and told him that he looked like a nursing home patient. That was too much. Dr. Walker will always be the most endearing of sorts to me.
