Jews in Jail (c'v) (chas v'shalom- horrible!)

It disturbs me when I read the account I get on the Jewish news services that there are jail facilities in the United States of America that still discriminate against basic freedoms of religion.  I read about 4 stories a year I think.  Maybe more.
God willing, I will never have to know more of a horrible confinement that hopefully for anyone is your fault and your correction that is proscribed.  Its not a bad place to be if you really have broken laws of mankind that are the result of your tragic harmful behavior and you should take your penance with human dignity.
That said, I must tell you that I have read that persons who are Jewish and go to jail for the more heinous of crimes may indeed atone (even for murder to an extent) by placing tefillin as often as possible.  Its believed that Tefillin can provide for some increased trust for you in the universe.  So if you do go to jail, its a good time to become more religious. I would think that you have the time.
That said, I do read frequent accounts of Jewish persons being denied the dignity and holiness of kosher foods.  Many are even forced to eat pork if they wish to eat the jailhouse food.  I am concerned of the broken nature of some of our penal systems who if they see you are not a true orthodox jew or they see that perhaps you snacked on a non kosher item, will forgo making and preparing kosher meals for you. The figure that if you can eat a non kosher food once, you should eat it all the time. Heresy!!!!!!!!!!
If you do eat a non kosher food, it wont destroy your entire lifestyle but it will not clearly be the best. That said if you were uber hungry and needed nourishment, non kosher can be enjoyed to the point that hunger is not going to plague you until you can get another meal hopefully kosher.
This is a very difficult subject as most people could care less about prisoners rights in this entire world.
Please those of you in this nation who have the opportunity to watch over the condemned or imprisoned, be human beings. Give the Jewish people their necessary interests.    Tzitzis too I say.  How could you kill someone with an 8 inch string?  I don't think you are going to tie it around their neck or even a finger.  Thanks!
