Why we should trust the media

So much these days, I find fringe elements of our culture who say that the media is overly biased in one way or another.  That may be at certain political philosophical realities.  There are people who however go beyond political discourse to accuse the media of negative propeganda, harmful ideas and just plan "governmental control tactics".  This is heresy.   There is clearly a difference between the media in the United states and propegandist media of say the middle east and clearly that of the 1940s Nazi Germany.  Why is this and what is the source of our strength.  Clearly any conspiracy minded anarchy driven person will tell you that the media is horrible and serves to "brainwash us".   Heresy.  Heresy.  Heresy.
The difference is that here in the United States, the foundation of our media is in the Universities where philosophy rules the day.  This is a form where by ideas are tossed around and conclusions are made with scientific means.   Todays media for the most part is a science.  It is not a free for all of the people who have a microphone to jam their thoughts into our heads.  The commentary and discourse of western media follows the pattern of watchful eyes that serve to improve the standing of society by scientific means.  Science is not perfect and debate continues.  Rest assured that we live in a society whereby peace and prosperity rule the day.
