Academic Trust

What is our responsibilty to our alma mater and what is our alma maters responsibility to ourselves?  Do we have an obligation to give back to our schools?  Financially in fact too?  I say yes.  I went to a college and a medical school and have in recent years begun to give at least a yearly donation.  I am on social security disability income at the present day.  I have been criticized for making charatable donations at any level given my restricted income and of course some debt.  But this I must say is heresy.   One must acnowledge that one is a proxy of the academic world and one must in fact endorse their own educational institutions productivity and relevance.  I do not care if you did not like the results of the institution's outreach, professionalism or mood at any time after you graduated.  You are a graduate and you carry the sword that is given to you in terms of your academic credentials.  You may or may not use it professionally.  You may or may not benefit financially from the success of your studies.  But clearly you have an edge on society in terms of your diligence and your strength.  There is an absolute need for you to repay this debt to all societies that are associated with your independance, worth, blessings and triumph over indigence.   Donate to your schools, academic institutions, fraternities and sororities and any honorary society you have been privilidged to belong.  Your association is lifelong.   Your duty is ongoing.  Any donation will suffice even as small as 10 dollars in a year.
