Well folks, I must reply that myself, a newly religious Jew, is no longer welcome in the "orthodox" run congregation in my vicinity. I must report that I was attacked on 3 counts for words I shared with 3 other congregants upon their situation which offended me greatly at both a psychological level and a religious and spiritual level. I did not complain to the rabbi as I felt it would easily accomplished to discuss the situation directly with the person. I will not go into detail as to the experiences that I found offensive, save to say that I am confident that Torah Values were violated in each case. I do believe that if you are going to go under the flag of orthodox Judaism, you need to defend Torah Values. I am no longer welcome, but guess what, the time I've been away has been constructive and educational. I must report that the ideals shared for 'removing' me from the community are what I'd report to be "unrealistic altruisim" and for that reason, its a blog entry. Unrealistic Altruism is when you are interested in a greater good, but your actions or impressions are such that you sacrifice true Values to keep a consistent and smiling congregation. Unrealistic.
If you want to enforce Torah Values, it involved discussing things at a Torah level. Not a pet peevish level or a unrealistic level of "I want you to wallow in self hatred" becuase "I don't want to accept your impressions or your judgement". I have this situation. Its not going to improve any time soon, but that said, I am quite confident that we have a Creator who will remedy the situation, now or in the years ahead. Plan a conspiracy and it will be annulled.
If you want peace in a community, its your job to aim for peace and friendship among people. If a Torah value has been compromised, say so. If not, say so.
