Curious minds always want to know about curious things.
What was the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden?
Of course, this question has occured to me in the past and I guess I thought that perhaps it was the pomegranite.
Then one day I listened to a lecture by a ChaBaD rabbi who indicated that it probably was the fig. He suggested that the fact that Adam and Eve covered themselves with a fig leaf indicates that they were very close to the fig tree. Insightful .....
I will tell you that in the last year or so, I concluded that perhaps the special fruit was a fruit that no longer is in existence on this planet. That might explain things well.
But perhaps so, the fruit is still here.
The fruit was not evil. It just revealed the insides and outsides of good and evil. It was a tree of knowledge about good and evil.
I am going to go back and think that this was the pomegranite... if it is a fruit that continues to be a part of Creation.
I will suggest it for the following reason... due to the number of seeds in the pomegranite, this equates with the amount of knowledge that you would gain.
This seems possible.
The Preists in the temple era wore garments that displayed the pomegranite. Perhaps to remind us of the fact that we chose this fate?
The Jewish world is permeated with pomegranites.
Surely this world is as God has considered it to become. What fun would the bible be if Adam and Eve never ate that fruit and we all lived naked forever in the Garden of Eden. Well, maybe our lives might be more fun...
I will suggest that it probably is likely not the fig. There are so many varieties of figs... What sort of fig variety was the fruit of the tree of knowledge if it was a fig.
The same goes for apples. Christians love to equate apples with this sin. This is likely because the apple is just a lucious and tasty variety and of course that reminds them of the act of s-e-x.
I am quite sure that if it was a pomegranite, God would want us to continue to enjoy this special fruit.
I just ate one and I can say that it is a formidable and beautiful fruit indeed. I can indeed imagine Adam and Eve holding one in the Garden of Eden.
Can you imagine that they picked an ugly fig to be the sin of all ages? It just does not compute!
