Blogging on shabbas
I have clearly now written three blog entries and its a good practice. This is discussing my interests online. That said, I will refrain from writing a story in my new blog, http://www.sirwaltersbackgammontable.blogspot.com/ . For those of you who have not read this blog, give it a gander. I do not believe you should write creatively on shabbas as this is a creative endeavor and you are going to cross a line between making sense and making money. I say that writing a story on shabbas is making money as it can be sold and bartered and that would violate shabbas. Unless you are a physician or a health care team worker, you can not enjoy the priviledge of "working" on the shabbas in the capacity that you are a healthy person who brings new things in to the world. So if you are a physician, go ahead and heal where healing is due, but dont work on your scientific papers unless its about a scientific fact and not about conjecture. That would make your work theoretical and that in my view is contraindicated for shabbas. So this blog entry is factual in my eyes and I must say though my story can be sold and bartered, that is not why it is being created. My literature adventures on the other hand, I freely would welcome a dinner invitation and a dollar in my pocket for their creations. Poetry is another matter. I am only writing poetry for the use of my audience. I may write in in a book, but that said, I am not going to be writing poetry that was meant to be a way to build my fortune. So that I will sell and enjoy and even write on shabbas if i see fit. But no more short stories. This I will not do on shabbas. Neither will I draw a cartoon, paint a painting or write a chapter in a fictional book. So thats that. Its hard to swallow, but it indeed is a pill, And I am Doctor Brenner. Enjoy!
