I was in residency at the time and went to a Boatshow in Miami. I went home and the next day I got a call that I had won a boat.
I have no recollection of ever entering my name in the drawing at all.
Either or, I had won a Logic Riot Sports Boat, 12 feet long with a 25 horse power Johnson Motor.
Not bad huh?
Well, I was reluctant and I was a little frightened overall, but I decided to pick it up and own the boat.
Got the boat. Got to take it out 3 times and had fun. Boating is a nice sport.
Well, I might have been a little naive, but I learned soon afterwards that winning boats was not a very admired or well thought of prize for anyone apparantly.
I was in a few situations where I might mention this acquisition and it was never met with any major pride on the other persons side for being near a newly appointed boater.
I do think that there is an element of thinking that if you win a boat, you are a ingrateful freeloader.
I am still in the feel that when I mention this to others that they redeem me as the freeloader that I must be for acquiring a nice paid for water ride that is a free ride, right?
To me this is worth mentioning as it is a heresy.
The idea that you are a free loader is based on someone who is not willing to offer a penny for the benefit of a good time.
I was not a freeloader.
I paid to go to the boat show.
